15 Film Classics With Classic Menswear

Men's fashion has always received a lot of ideas from movies, which is also where we find some of the biggest style icons. Here are our favourite style classics from the 1930s to the 1970s that were shown on the big screen.

Here are some of our favourites:

GREAT MOVIES FROM THE 1930S

We start with the 1930s, which are very popular right now in classic menswear. During this decade, Hollywood also became one of the most important sources of fashion ideas.

When we look at all the movies made in the 1930s, Alfred Hitchcock's films stand out because there were so many of them. Gone with the Wind is a style classic that you have to see if you haven't already. It stars Clark Gable, who was a style icon in the 1930s.

GREAT MOVIES FROM THE 1940S

By the time you get to the 1940s, there are a lot more classics to choose from. Two of these, Casablanca and Citizen Kane, have been chosen as the best movies ever made (1941). Two movies that are also great for fashion, thanks in part to Orson Welles and Humphrey Bogart, two of the most stylish people of the 1940s.

James Stewart was also a great actor in the 1940s, and It's a Wonderful Life, which came out in 1946, is also thought to be one of the best movies ever made.

THE BEST MOVIES OF THE 1950S

Cary Grant and Gregory Peck are two actors from the 1950s who stand out as some of the best examples of how men should dress. Roman Holiday, which came out in 1953, is a classic, especially for the scenes where Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck ride around Rome on a Vespa.

How to Catch a Thief, which came out in 1955 and starred Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, is another style classic from the 1950s. Cary Grant's classic menswear is on display here, and you can also get a great view of the French Riviera from here.

Rebel Without a Cause, which came out in 1955, is often mentioned as one of the movies that made James Dean an icon. It is also often called one of the great menswear film classics.

THE BEST MOVIES OF THE 1960S

When people talk about style icons from the 1960s and 1970s, they often talk about the same people. Here, we're going to talk about style classics on the big screen, and some of the choices are pretty clear.

The first Bond movie to win an Oscar was Goldfinger, which came out in 1964 and starred Sean Connery. It's also one of the most stylish. It's the first time we see James Bond's Aston Martin, and the beachwear is still a style icon today.

Steve McQueen is another 1960s style icon, and The Great Escape (1969), which he was in, is the best movie he was in.

Dr. Strangelove, a 1964 movie with Peter Sellers, is our third and last style classic from the 1960s.

THE BEST MOVIES OF THE 1970S

The 1970s are the last decade we look to for ideas. Paul Newman and Robert Redford were two other great style icons of this decade, along with Steve McQueen. In the 1973 movie The Sting, both of these actors play con artists in Chicago in the 1930s. This movie is a big hit for menswear fans from the 1930s.

Even though Jack Nicholson has had a long and successful career in the industry, he is not often thought of as a style icon. Still, he was in Chinatown, which is one of the most stylish movies of the 1970s. This is also one of the best movies of the decade, and it takes place in the 1930s, which was the best time for men's fashion.

The 1972 movie The Godfather is on every list of great movies from the 1970s. Most people agree that this is one of the best movies ever made. Al Pacino and Marlon Brando are both in it. The movie takes place between 1945 and 1955, which is very interesting for men who love classic style.
